How would you feel if your boss said your pay was being cut by more than half with only three months' warning? Unfortunately, that is the equivalent of what has happened to millions of people who rely on the income from their savings to make ends meet.
The Bank of England base rate has fallen from 5% in September to only 2% and many bank and building society savings rates have followed suit. While there are still some reasonable deals for new savers, older instant-access accounts from big names such as Nationwide or Halifax are paying as little as 0.2%.
